This should be front page headlines–that it took my team to investigate, discover and report this data before the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and our TV news stations says something about the quality of reporting by our local media.

The FBI – Federal Bureau of Investigation has released its 2014 U.S. Crime Report; the report reveals that in 2014 Milwaukee experienced its HIGHEST VIOLENT CRIME RATE since Mayor Tom Barrett took office in 2004.

Milwaukee is now the nation’s 5th Most Dangerous City–our city’s 2014 Violent Crime Rate was 1,476.4. The FBI’s Violent Crime Rate indicates the number of violent crimes per 100,000 residents.

These are the Violent Crime Rates (according to the FBI–sourced below) for each full year Mayor Barrett has been in office:

2005 – 1,024.7
2006 – 1,324.9
2007 – 1,403.3
2008 – 1,218.8
2009 – 1088.9
2010 – 1044.5
2011 – 999.1
2012 – 1,294.5
2013 – 1,363.8
2014- 1,476.4

The trend is up and up and follows the Mayor’s recent cuts of 144 police officers and 70 detectives from the Milwaukee Police Department.

Mayor Barrett claims public safety is his “top priority”–his record and the FBI’s crime data tell us his claim is a lie.
