Today, Department of Corrections Secretary Ed Wall announced his appointment of Joy Staab to the position of Director of Public Affairs. Staab, who presently holds the rank of captain in the Wisconsin Army National Guard and serves as the Deputy Director of Public Affairs at the Wisconsin Department of Military Affairs, will begin her new position on June 17.
Staab has extensive experience in the area of public affairs. She has served as a commissioned officer in the Wisconsin National Guard since 2003 and has served as a military public affairs officer in both Iraq and Kosovo during yearlong deployments.
In announcing the appointment, Secretary Wall said, “Joy Staab is an exceptional professional in the world of public affairs and brings with her some real life experience that will be valuable in her new position.” Wall added, “I’m very pleased that Joy has accepted the offer to join the DOC team and we look forward to her talent and leadership in this new role.”
“I feel honored to be selected for this position,” explained Staab. “I take great pride in my profession and have truly enjoyed serving as a public affairs officer in the Wisconsin National Guard. I feel grateful that I can continue to serve the people of Wisconsin as a public affairs professional while working at the Department of Corrections.”
Staab holds a bachelor’s degree in communication from the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point and is a graduate of the Department of Defense Information School, Public Affairs Course. In addition, she has graduated from Army Officer Basic and Advanced Adjutant General Courses and possesses FEMA Advanced Incident Command System, Command and General Staff certifications.
