Michael Theo, President and CEO of the Wisconsin REALTORS ®Association, released the following statement on Gov. Scott Walker’s Weekly Radio Address regarding “Easing the Property Tax Burden for Wisconsin Families.”
The Wisconsin REALTORS ® Association (WRA) applauds Gov. Scott Walker and the Wisconsin Legislature for their efforts to ease the property tax burden for homeowners in Wisconsin over the last six years. As noted by Gov. Walker, the estimated savings for a typical homeowner over the last six years is $1,700. These are real savings, and this helps keep housing more affordable in Wisconsin.
As we all know, property taxes in Wisconsin fall hardest on those with fixed incomes and first-time homebuyers, a critical segment of the housing market in the Badger State.
We thank the governor for his promise to continue to prioritize easing the property tax burden in the next state budget, and urge the legislature to continue to work with Gov. Walker to find ways to reduce property taxes for all Wisconsin homeowners over the next two years.
