On 3/21/13 At 621am the Racine County Communications Center received a 911 call of a property damage accident on I94 just north of CTH C. The operator of a Chevy HHR stated that something struck her vehicle and broke her windshield.
Upon the arrival of Racine County Deputies they discovered that a NB box van had lost a set of tandem wheels from the rear axle of the truck. The tandem wheels travelled into the SB lanes of I94 and struck the Chevy HHR’s front end and then impacted the windshield directly in front of the 41 year old female driver who was the lone occupant of the vehicle. The female driver was able to pull over to the median wall, out of traffic, and call 911. The female driver was treated at the scene for minor cuts from the breaking windshield glass.
The Chevy G30 box van that was northbound was able to pull over to the right shoulder, also out of traffic. The 39 year old male driver did not sustain any injuries.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the 8 wheel studs that held the Chevy box van’s wheels on, sheared off for an unknown reason.
Only one SB traffic lane of I94 was closed for scene operations for about 40 minutes.
